Aims
To provide an overview of the key changes that the GDPR will introduce and how you can best prepare for them.
Content

On 25 May 2018, data protection laws will undergo their biggest change in almost 20 years when the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) comes in to force. While you might be confident that your organisation is fully compliant with the laws as they currently stand, do you know what practical steps you'll need to take to be GDPR ready?

Specific topics that will be covered include:
  • special category data
  • privacy notices
  • obtaining and relying upon consent
  • appointing a data protection officer.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the course, learners should:
  • Be familiar with the new data protection principles set out under the GDPR
  • Understand the difference between personal data and special category data
  • Be able to identify the 6 lawful bases for processing data, and assess which basis is likely to apply when carrying out their role
  • Understand the legal obligations of a data controller and a data processor
  • Be aware of the practical steps that they can take to prepare for GDPR being introduced from May 2018.
Who this course is for
This seminar will be of benefit to those who already have a good understanding of the provisions under the Data Protection Act 1998, and want to ensure their processing of personal data continues to be compliant from May.
